Dear Friends,

Probus Club (a wing of Rotary for Senior Citizens) during the international day celebration is awarding Recognition to  our accredited leader, Shri GN Sridharan.  Congratulations.

The event is on 4th October 2019 in the Russian Cultural Center, Chennai,  near Hotel Chola Sheraton. The celebration starts at 2 30 pm and the Award Giving function will be at 3 30 pm (please see the program attached).

It is but appropriate that a senior leader of the  stature of Shri GNS,  is being honoured.  It is a life lived on par with freedom fighters of yore, where they sacrificed their normal, smooth life, for the sake of the noble cause, of the Freedom of the Country, from foreign yoke.

I remember from my early days in LIC as to how he moved about vigorously among Divisions , trying to bring about an awakening in the minds of people about being united under the banner of the Federation to strengthen the Activities to safeguard our interests as officers. And this he did often using his Privilege Leave, which used to run out of balance, most of the time due to such use.It could easily be said, that he was perhaps the only leader of the Class I group, who could  legitimately lay claim to being a true-blood 'Trade Unionist.'

Not surprisingly, he did hob-nob with Politics as well, in an attempt to expand the zone of benefit to people, beyond just the confines of LIC.

His  full-fledged career as an active Advocate was another feather in his cap, where he tried his best to help the cause of the poor and the down-trodden, and never looked for his own personal benefit from all these involvements.

This  Honour is in fact partly that of the graceful Lady back home, who silently, but effectively supported him in his every move. Sometimes even the great Gandhis are likely to miss out on the role of the silent Kasturbas back home, who gave them the impetus to move on in all their efforts . Hats off to that self-effacing Lady too, in this hour of his Glory. She deserves it no less!

Our humble respects to our great leader, when the PROBUS CLUB celebrates his life and its selfless past.

D.Krishnan.
Genl.Secretary

Appeal by Sridharan G.N 6:02 PM (13 minutes ago) FAITH AND PRAYER  deserve to be considered as one of the weapons to fight the virus menace. It is  not without purpose that even the Westerners believe in the old dictum - 'many things are wrought by prayers'. Gandhiji said that the tenets of Hindu religion and faith has universal application .Our ancient texts do prescribe prayers as a panacea for all human ailments. For instance in Mahabharata - vide Dwadasa nama pancharam an appendix to Vishnu Sahasranamam - a sloka in the words of Bishma pitamah runs as follows: "Achyutha,Anantha,Govinda namocharana beshajath nasyanti sakala rohath ,Satyam satyam vadhamyaham" That is, he swears that uttering the various names of the Lord will cure a person  of  ALL his diseases. In another sloka it is said that even water from holy Ganga can be good enough a medicine (oushadam) if only we believe the Lord (sriman Narayana) as the doctor.(vaid...
