sudden demise of shri A S Desikan (of Pallavaram) at his son’s residence in Ram Nagar, Nanganallur,

Friends,                                                                      30-03-2020 Even as all of us are  forced to stay indoors due to the corona scare not knowing when we can get back to our normal active schedule, the flow of some sad news or the other does not seem to give itself a break. The latest sad news we have had is the sudden demise of shri A S Desikan (of Pallavaram)  at his son’s residence in Ram Nagar, Nanganallur, yesterday morning (29/3/20), due to heart attack. Shri Desikan was known for his calm and genial temperament and was a great devotee of Lord Varadaraja of Kancheepuram.  As one of our members from the days of formation of the Association he was highly dedicated to our causes. I recall the number of occasions when shri Desikan would call on me personally to hand over his donation cheques and conveying his good wishes every time for the success of the association in all its efforts. His end seems to have come about in natural circumstances fo

Make no Mistake

A message from our friend  Madam Uma Raj  from Madhyamar Group in Facebook. Make no mistake. When loved ones are removed from your home by ambulance because the virus has hit them hard, you are not going to be able to follow them there, sit by their hospital bed and hold their hand. You are not going to be able to pop in at 7.00 pm for visiting hours. They are going to have no one other than exhausted and brave hospital staff to see them through days or weeks of barely breathing through a ventilator (if you are lucky. India has 40,000 ventilators for 1.3 billion people..so 75000 people for 1 ventilator? ) until they either die or recover. They are not going to be well enough to text you. You are not going to be able to phone the ward to check in on them regularly (staff will be too busy for that). During that time, they will be completely alone, while you sit at home waiting to hear whether they have made it through. Imagine that person is someone you love dearly. Because it

Dear friend, I am sure you will be enjoying the company of your family on a full-scale  thanks to the curbs imposed on our going out and  socialising. Though it is very difficult to be confined to the house 24/7 I feel there is no option in the present context.  After all we do not want the threat to become a reality. I mailed to about a dozen of my old friends in Kerala and most of them them have confirmed they and their families are safe. A few of them have also praised the arrangements made by the authorities. I will be delighted to have similar happy messages from my friends like you at chennai.Hence this mail. With best wishes to you and family  - GN Sridharan

Our colleague Pensioner Dr.Mrs.Padma Sudarsan no more.

The passing away Dr.(Mrs)Padma Sudarsan on 16 th March 2020 following a brain haemmorage removes from our midst an ardent member of our Association .She never used to miss any of our annual gatherings. Smt.Padma was indeed a standing example to prove that it is not necessary for senior citizens to write themselves off merely on grounds of advancing age.  She was past 75 when she got a doctorate from Madras University on Vaishnavite Philosophy. She was deeply interested in carnatic music and was  involved in the formation of  'Ragasudha' one of the music sabhas in the city .Post retirement she had devoted her entiretime in pursuit of devotional and cultural activities .She leaves behind two sons to mourn her loss. We pray to the Almighty to rest her soul in peace and may her tribe increase -  GN Sridharan

Friends, Our court case           There are lot of enquiries from our anxious and agonised members about our court case. The Next Date for our Hearing in the SC was indicated for 17th March and now we find that the same has been rescheduled to 24 th  march, which is also not definite. We may perhaps need to wait for the confirmation. The SC is closed for Holi from 9th to 15th, in which case, the announcement regarding date and number  might come later. It is also beset with its own problems, having to handle sensitive and urgent matters like Sabarimala, Anti-CAA, Nirbhaya criminals case etc, and is under great pressure to get ahead with routine matters like ours. Moreover information reaching  us state that the SC is going to hear urgent cases only, and unless the situation changes, in the normal course, our case is not likely to find a place in the regular list of 24 th   March also. So we will have to wait and see. Moreover, our president is of the firm opinion that  the SL
