Which way the proceedings in SC shall go ? eagerly asked my visitor who was just 85 .. I know. I said.

He had just dropped in my house.
 with his wife and daughter
 who must have crossed half a century. Formal enquiries on the recent bereavement in my family 
flowed in unabated for a few more minutes.  He was our long time neighbour long long ago at Thanjavur, most likely between two historic and unforgettable events in our land :Chinese Invasion of our country and sensational murder of that charming political personality at Sriperumpudur.

I was always a die-hard admirer of my friend.   Being an employee of ORIENTAL INSURANCE COMPANY, his addiction to work was something infectious.   One may recollect that except  Oriental's tabular rates (that were ipso facto adopted adding Re.1 toformulate a new table) all other ideals of ORIENTAL were given a good send off.

Coming back to my friend, I recall that every member of his family continues to be very closely friendly to each and everyone of our LIC family lived then at our Colony at Thanjavur. Their generosity - i must say LARGE,  BIGHEARTEDNESS - in helping people inspires even now.

I remembered I attended his 80th birthday celebrations where I met another  workaholic , again of ORIENTAL. who was equally known as a  gentle affable duty bound personality.   I remembered him as one who  even on the last day of his service, at 4.30 p.m.that day, he was seen giving final touches to the circulars being sent then to Branches from D.O. on decentralization of Policyholders' services.  The tribe to which he belonged to vanished long long ago, if i am correct. His loyalty to the institution he served was possibly MUCH MUCH more than the masters who ruled it. (I could also say 'who rule it' as you know  I am always afraid of Sec.39 in Pension Regulations!). We rarely see such people .During his life time, after retirement,  he has been receiving pittances , if i am correct, just three hundred to jump to one thousand as pension from our YOGAKSHEMAM VAHAMYAHAM . He passed away recently  I was told at his age 98 . Men who matter at Nariman Point  should be happy, I scantily thought.  NPA has come down, though,by a trickle.

After a few more minutes of banal talk, my friend showed me a message from his smartphone. Said he could not understand much.  Why suddenly some thirty thousand stands credited to his Bank account ? Why should LIC send such an amount in the middle of the month, much much higher than his regular monthly pension.  I read the message. It was clear. I said : "you are lucky to have that  big credit to your Bank account  That you received it when you were still vertical speaks volumes about our speedy judiciary process. You know, my great boss, next only to Eeswar Dayal,  had once  told me once THE PROCESS IS MORE IMPORTANT than the any pertinent goal ! " 

 "I dont understand you" he said, with a wry smile.
 I did not tell him it was but natural.  I knew that many did not understand me  when I was at ZTC either. 

 I told him that  was nothing but the arrears of pension due to him over the last twenty years or so, he appeared satisfied for a while, but continued:

"Then Sury ! I am hearing a lot of people saying that there is some case going on at Supreme Court ? You know, I cannot get into deep details, as it strains my eyes.. Do you know in which direction the S C will decide ?"

That was a million dollar question. The case appears to go north , but whether it will finally tend towards south, none  could say, albeit a few of them would not say. What will happen to our cases if neft facility is no more used by our fellow pensioners ? Everyone knows.

 I felt my helplessness in explaining the nuances of the case in just a minute or two. I could have asked him to just call the leader of his Association, but it was risky. I knew that the great statesman friend of mine,(who had taught me English prose at MDC five decades ago ) and  who has an uncanny command over all groups  of retirees, one to four, (for i think, record clerks were also classified as under three ) will send a reply running to a 100 page document. I am aware that poor recipients miss mid day meal to read even now and get lost in the poetic wings of fantasy, though. They fail to listen to me that reading PRABHANDAM or Tulsi Ramayana may benefit better. 

 Anyway, my friend will never read it, I was sure.

So, I simply said, therefore.

which of course does not need
HOSPITALISATION !!!
