Friends,

Can we contribute to PM's Fighting Fund?
As
we all are going through an unprecedented ‘period of total
shut down’ on every conceivable front, to combat the fast
spreading Virus, there is a very noble idea that has come up in
the minds of our members, as to how we shall contribute to the
Prime Minister's Fund, meant for fighting this threat to the
health, well-being, and life itself, of people in this country.
Various
possible options were discussed. These included
i) Deductions
by the LIC from Pensions of our members,
ii) Collections
being made from members and Associations conveying it to the
Federation, where it will be consolidated and forwarded.
In the present situation, consolidation at the Federation level
is difficult. Hence Associations can try and contact
members and collect the money from them, by cheque or NEFT
transfers and pass it on directly to the PM's Fund.
iii) If
collection drive by the Association becomes a difficulty,
since courier and postal services are not fully operative, the
Associations can request the individual members to remit the
contribution, directly into the PM's Account by NEFT or IMPS
Transfers where possible, and keep the concerned Association
informed, who will in turn keep the federation posted with the
details, so that we could make a total list of all such
payments made, to tell ourselves , how much has gone into such
Funds from the Federation, to fight the National Menace that is
currently shaking our governance structure so badly.
The
first one is possible only from next month's pension. Also, LIC
Divisions and ZOs cannot be instructed to make deductions only
of our members. It may also involve LIC asking for consent from
individual members concerned, without which deductions from
pension is not possible.
Wherever
Associations feel that the second option may be difficult in
the present scenario of total freezing of movements that
is in vogue now, the third option is the one which is possible
as of now.

I
understand, the Delhi Association has already gone into an
over-drive mode on this, by taking a decision to donate Rs. one
lakh into the PM's Fund, from the Association Funds
itself. This is one very practical method under the current
situation, for other Associations too, which can spare the
funds. All other Associations too can also follow this
example and see what best they can do in this grim hour of need
for the country.
Hoping
for better times soon, and wishing all our members , the very
best, under the circumstances.
It
is also proposed to convey our thoughts on this to the other
sister organizations of Retirees as well, to add substance to
the mission at the National level.
