Friends,
Reg: Executive Committee meeting on 14th March 2020
The Extended Executive committee meeting of our Chennai, Retired LIC Class I Officers’ Association, was held on 14th of this month. 21 members were present.
The following decisions were taken, after discussion and approval.
i. Fedn. subscription @Rs.25, per member for 376 members, is to be paid. Rs.9400. (approved)
ii. 2. As per the Federation circular, to augment the depleted funds, we were requested to make, maximum amount, out of the levy collected, to the Federation. In that case, out of the collected amount we can remit another Rs.50000, immediately. (approved). Both these amounts will be remitted by next week.
iii. There is a further call from the Federation for additional funds by contacting those who had not paid the levy and also from others for Legal fund. It was decided that we should therefore concentrate on this aspect, by contacting the members, by letter and follow up.
iv. During last year itself, many members expressed if we can have the AGM in June, to escape from the scorching sun. Moreover because of the Corona virus threat, looming large, it was agreed to have the AGM this year during June 2020. The details of date venue etc., will be circulated after discussion among Office bearers.
v. Last year many of the members felt that no time was allotted to the ordinary members, to speak, in the AGM. Hence it was agreed to allot the last one hour for the members to speak and get whatever clarifications they require, by fixing up approximate time limit for each agenda and also to the speakers.
vi. Normally during the last minute we go in search of persons for EC membership etc. and end up with persons who are not able to devote anytime. This time we shall contact some new members and involve them. The entire team of office bearers can be listed in advance, getting the consent of each.
vii. Some members, expressed an opinion if we could form a help desk, comprising of interested members, area wise and respond to the need of the other members who face some difficulty in their pension or Medi-claim matters etc., Most of the members present were in agreement and shortly we shall put the same into action.
viii. Our President moved a resolution regarding our court case. It was passed unanimously (appended below)
RESOLUTION
---------------
This Meeting of the Members of the Executive Committee and Special invitees of The Retired LIC Class 1 officers' Association Chennai held on 14th March 2020 is gratified to note that after a long and agonizing period of waiting , the Special Leave Petition filed by the Federation in the Supreme Court has now reached its final stage for disposal. This meeting is of the considered view that since the important issue of Up gradation of pension with which the entire community of pensioners are concerned, is involved, it is absolutely necessary to work for a positive outcome by the litigating organisations including our Federation adopting an appropriate strategy.
It is therefore felt that our objective at this hour should be to achieve a fair and positive result instead of working for a quick disposal of the case keeping in mind the following indisputable facts :
1) whether we like it or not it is the policy of the Govt., to treat the employees (including pensioners) in the insurance sector on par with those in the nationalized banking sector in the matter of their emoluments and basic service benefits. Judiciary will never interfere on policy matters.
2) RBI is on a different footing from the Govt's point of view and it would be futile to claim parity with their pensioners especially when the judiciary has already and categorically ruled out parity with Govt. employees.
3) A good trend would seem to have emerged on the issue of wage revision for the in-service banking work force and for improvements on the benefits for their pensioners. Once it happpens we should be able to get similar benefits.
4) The Bank employees pension rules, like ours, do not carry any specific provision for automatic gradation.
5) A quick but a negative verdict in our case is bound to place the demand for up gradation in jeopardy for both sectors for quite some more time to come.

In the above situation this meeting appeals to the Gen.Secy of our federation and through him to all the leaders of other organisations of LIC pensioners not to contribute in any manner for a finality being reached in the on-going case in the Supreme court. FOR THE TIME BEING in the larger interests of the pensioners community. Instead, having waited so long a further wait for a few more months is more likely to take them towards achieving the long cherished goal of securing Upgradation of pension.
