Reg: Our
Case in SC, & organisational matters
The
Next Date for our Hearing in the SC is indicated for 17th
march. We may perhaps need to wait till 13th or 14th for the
confirmation. It is also likely, that the SC will close for
Holi from 9th to 15th, in which case, the announcement
regarding date and no. might come earlier. The Supreme Court is
beset with its own problems, having to handle sensitive and
urgent matters like Sabarimala, Anti-CAA, Hanging of Nirbhaya
criminals etc, and is under great pressure to get ahead with
routine matters like ours. So we will have to wait and see.
On
the Organizational front, there are happy developments like
Jharkand unit becoming a reality, and some more in the pipe
line, to fructify soon. As and when they really happen, I shall
be keeping you informed.
Recently
one of our very Senior members in Lucknow, Sri N K Singh, had
called friends over for an observance of his 85th Birthday, and
on that occasion, on his own, he donated a sum of Rs. 11000/-
to the Association. The Secretary Sri S K Awasthiji, and
President Sri S C Joshiji, were overjoyed, and called to
inform me of this big gesture from Sri N K Singh. As
I received the information, I too felt elated, nay inspired, by
the kind of loyalty and commitment of the member towards the
common cause. I thought I should acknowledge this great gesture
of Sri Singh of Lucknow, in the public sphere of our All-India
membership, so that others too would feel enthused to come
forward with such acts of spontaneous support to the general
Cause of the Pensioners.
There
was also news from Sri T K Ravindran, our Joint Secretary
from Bengaluru, that Sri K Vijaya Kumar had come forward to
make a contribution of Rs. 3000/- to the Association. It
may be worth recording here, that Sri Vijaya Kumar is a
fairly recent Retiree, and the interest he has shown in making
this contribution on his own is truly exemplary.
I
also learn from our Chennai association that Sri T R
Madhava Rao, member from Chennai, has spontaneously come
forward with a payment of Rs. 3000/- to the Association.
All
these augur well for the Federation, which has recently issued
a call, to its affiliated Associations, to strengthen the
financial position of the Federation, to meet any contingencies
that may arise due to extended Court Case in the SC. The other
Associations too could do well to act on the Call and gather
resources for the Federation, in addition to transferring
balances on earlier collections held back with them, as
suggested.
Banks
seem to have come to a steady position, on their Negotiations
with the IBA, on their Demands. For the first time, they are
showing statesman-like qualities in agreeing to wait for
certain matters to be carried forward, in an on-going kind of
effort, and not insist on concluding everything right at
this juncture. So we may see a kind of agreement
concluded, with certain aspects, like Revision of Pension,
5-day week etc, left to be decided , even as the other points
are agreed upon mutually to bring in a finality to this
long-drawn parleys. We will any way need to see how it goes in
the next few days.
On Pension
Revision, there seems to be positive indications, though the
Banking industry has been on tough times recently, and all of
them, not at the common level, in their performance. This then
will be a feather in their cap if they do pull it off, in the
back-drop of this chequered picture , even if it has to be,
after a gap in time. Since the Negotiations with LIC
Employee Associations is likely to follow, these are good
bench-marks to start on , as they sit for talks.
More,
later
D.Krishnan.

Appeal by Sridharan G.N 6:02 PM (13 minutes ago) FAITH AND PRAYER deserve to be considered as one of the weapons to fight the virus menace. It is not without purpose that even the Westerners believe in the old dictum - 'many things are wrought by prayers'. Gandhiji said that the tenets of Hindu religion and faith has universal application .Our ancient texts do prescribe prayers as a panacea for all human ailments. For instance in Mahabharata - vide Dwadasa nama pancharam an appendix to Vishnu Sahasranamam - a sloka in the words of Bishma pitamah runs as follows: "Achyutha,Anantha,Govinda namocharana beshajath nasyanti sakala rohath ,Satyam satyam vadhamyaham" That is, he swears that uttering the various names of the Lord will cure a person of ALL his diseases. In another sloka it is said that even water from holy Ganga can be good enough a medicine (oushadam) if only we believe the Lord (sriman Narayana) as the doctor.(vaid...
