Friends,
MAY DAY GREETINGS
Today is an important day in the annals of the Working Class all over the World. The matter goes back to the Industrial Revolution in England, in the 16th and 17th Centuries when Machines first made their advent. Those who owned these Factories with Machines started utilising them round the Clock and the Labour who ran the Machines worked upto 16 hours a day! It was movement against this Exploitation of the Labour Class, that eventually led to the Chicago Convention in the late 1880s where Rights of Labourers were put down on paper in a Declaration, and their life and Dignity re-established.
Since that time, the 1st of May symbolises the spirit of working Class and their right to live in Dignity. In the 20th Century, almost all Nations of the World have joined in on this symbolic observance of May 1st, and the Spirit of it now goes beyond just the labour class to encompass virtually all people who worked in any capacity.
This observance underscores the very important point that we cannot indulge in excesses, that results in the Goose that lays the Golden Egg, being crushed to counter- productive levels. It also highlights the fact that all Humans have basic rights to live a decent and dignified life, irrespective of the social strata to which they belonged. The Spirit that May Day stands for , has today gone well beyond mere labour to all humans who make the society at large.
Now to get down to our own matters of the Pensioner Class, This day becomes a very significant day to keep fighting for justice in the Spirit of the May Day. I am sure we will carry forward this Torch till all our legitimate demands are met. 'Neither Age can wither, nor custom stale' our infinite Spirit in the quest for Fairness.
7th May is now the Date for the Next Hearing, and we are not sure at all, as to what progress there can be, with the Summer Vacation of the SC, looming large within ten days. I dare say, this delay, though painful for us, the aged, could carry positive portends through decisions coming from outside of Court portals. The way things have moved for RBI, the Expectations created for Bank Retirees, and the general mood of the movements on Revision of Pensions, all point to fair tidings of success coming our way in due time. In case we force the Court matters, and it does come out , interim, with something not in tune with the general expectations of positive changes happening for others, then we would have been trapped in our own web . So we may exercise patience, which we have already shown immensely, and wait for good things to turn out, in keeping with the Spirit of May Day.
With Hearty May Day Greetings,
D. Krishnan, Gen.Secretary
