Friends,
During
the course of this month apart from the May Day Greetings, we had
received some information from the All India Federation GS Shri
D.Krishnan and I hereby share with you the gist.
1. Cyclone
Havoc in Odisha ...
This
communication is almost totally dedicated to the Devastations
suffered in Odisha under the impact of the severe Cyclone Fani
which has played havoc with life and property there. The
coastal districts of Puri and Bhubaneswar , in particular are in very
bad shape, without food, water and Electricity. Our Retiree friends
in Odisha were finding it difficult to even send messages on their
tragedy because the Network too was cut off.
Incidentally
every time there is a threat of Cyclone, held out for coastal Tamil
Nadu, it is Odisha that eventually takes the brunt. There is an
urgent need for us to respond to this unfortunate event, in the form
of whatever help we might be in a position to render, to the
suffering people of Odisha, as earlier similar
calls for Kerala, Karnataka and Tamil Nadu, to which our people
responded in good measure. A similar Call is being given out here,
for help, to the victims in Odisha.
More
than even the Funds, it is the solidarity we express with the
affected people that will go a long way in making those people , now
in severe distress conditions, feel that they are not alone in this
gloomy hour. We certainly are with them of mind and spirit, if
not in body.
----
To this appeal our Chennai Association will also respond as usual by
sending an amount of Rs.5000, as sent to the other states, earlier,
in consultation with the Executive Committee.
2. Associating
with the in-service Association:
The
Federation General Secretary had attended about four AGMs’ of the
affiliated associations, including ours. The sum and substance of
his address is as below:
“One
of the more significant developments for us, was the opportunity I
got, to meet the in-service Class I Federation's Gen Secretary Sri
Raj Kumar in Thiruvananthapuram, where he was one of the invited
guests. He gave a detailed account of the manner of
relationships for the Federation at the All-India level, and
what kind of issues, are currently being handled. He assured us that
he will also carry our flag of needs along with that of their own. I
mentioned to him that' Service' is only a passing phase, and that the
final and culminating phase is that of the Retirees, and that, their
policies, will need to logically tie up the impact of their demands,
with that of how it affects those, who get into the stage of
Retirement.
Another
significant thing that Sri Raj Kumar mentioned, was a kind of Joint
Front being developed at the All-India level , of all the LIC
Employee Associations, to make themselves, more of a force to be
reckoned with. Viewed in the back-drop of our February efforts, to
create a Joint Front of all the Associations of Retirees, this one
gels with the approach of the In-Service Associations. All such
efforts logically point to an instinctive move towards making
themselves more effective from the point of view of results. So
friends, promising you more as we go along, and conveying my Hearty
Greetings to all of you, once again.
D.Krishnan.
We
shall share as and when we get any further information.
With
Greetings
VRKrishnan,
Secretary
