A friend of mine recently forwarded to me a video of SriSri Ravishankar narrating two anecdotes on how Swami Vivekananda dealt with insults he recd from a particular proffessor while he was a student in Oxford /England .I felt that they are worth being shared with others.
1) one day Swami Vivekananda sat at a particular table in the lunch room normally taken by the concerned professor. When the proffessor entered and saw SV he remarked that " pigs and pigeons" cannot sit at the same place. The swami quickly retorted and said " sir, tell me ,I can fly away any time" and he actually vacated the seat and took to another table!!
2) The second quoted incident took place in the classroom. The same poffessor posed a question to SV directly thus : " Suppose you find a book of wisdom and some money lying in the street which one you will pick up?".SV answered that he would pick up only money.
The prof.heckled him saying that it betrayed his culture and said that in his place he would have picked only the book of wisdom .Swami Vivekananda quietly said " it is natural that people would pick up only what they don't have!! "
