Friends,
Reg: Sharing a few  matters ..
It has been a few days now, from the time I sent my last communication under No DK  28. Not that there is much to convey, but basically the need is to remain in contact.
It was a matter of some satisfaction and nay, even pride, that none from this senior group of the Retired, had so far, fallen victim to the dreaded Virus that is raging out there. But, right now, there is this sad news from the  Guwahati Assn, that one of the members, Sri Prasanna Kumar Haloi, lost his battle against the virus. If in spite of all the care of non-exposure , this was contracted, one can imagine how virulent an infection it is, that spreads even without an identifiable physical contact! Our hearts go out to the family, to say we are all with you in this hour of terrible loss.
Meanwhile I happened to come across a communication where the State Bank Of India's initiative with Apollo Hospitals had resulted in their Pensioners getting the offer of  free Isolation arrangement in good Hotels, for the first 100 of them, who may have the unfortunate need for such a requirement. Following this, I sent out a message to our CO reproducing the SBI communication on this. Both are reproduced here for your benefit.
Dear Sir/madam,

I am Attaching a copy  letter of SBI, which shows that they have made some special Arrangements for Pensioners who Test positive for Covid 19. I thought this was a very positive gesture, for the care of the aged Pensioners of State Bank Of India. I think this example on this current significant issue, is worthy of emulation, even in LIC for its Pensioners.  Apollo Hospitals might extend the same terms to LIC too , if approached.  I would request you to examine the possibility. Regards

D.Krishnan.
Some semblance of normality seems to be slowly coming around, with the lockdown being lifted, on quite a few of our regular activities. There is a communication from Indian Banks' Association, announcing the next date for their Wage Negotiations. While 22nd July is the Date fixed, it is not very clear as to how the Association representatives will travel to Mumbai, and how the meeting/seating arrangements will be laid out under these restrictive times. The IBA communication is also reproduced here.
The very unusual situation created by the Virus has taken a big toll  on the economy in multiple ways. In this background, the Govt. is trying to bring down expenditure in various different ways. This has resulted in the Govt advising the LIC not to print Diaries and Calendars for the year 2021. The official communication on this behalf is attached here.
Hoping that all our members and Family will continue to remain safe under the more relaxed conditions of the lockdown, taking particular care, not to over-expose themselves.  We still have no indication from the LIC Central Office regarding their stand on the Existence Certificate, which falls due in July/August this year. We shall remind them.
With Greetings
 D.Krishnan
General Secretary

Appeal by Sridharan G.N 6:02 PM (13 minutes ago) FAITH AND PRAYER  deserve to be considered as one of the weapons to fight the virus menace. It is  not without purpose that even the Westerners believe in the old dictum - 'many things are wrought by prayers'. Gandhiji said that the tenets of Hindu religion and faith has universal application .Our ancient texts do prescribe prayers as a panacea for all human ailments. For instance in Mahabharata - vide Dwadasa nama pancharam an appendix to Vishnu Sahasranamam - a sloka in the words of Bishma pitamah runs as follows: "Achyutha,Anantha,Govinda namocharana beshajath nasyanti sakala rohath ,Satyam satyam vadhamyaham" That is, he swears that uttering the various names of the Lord will cure a person  of  ALL his diseases. In another sloka it is said that even water from holy Ganga can be good enough a medicine (oushadam) if only we believe the Lord (sriman Narayana) as the doctor.(vaidy
