Dear Friends,
Reg: Group Mediclaim 2022-23
The essential details of the Group Mediclaim Scheme for the year 2022-23 are sent by LIC Central office by their circular Gr. Mediclaim Scheme co per ER-A 286 2022. DT.08.03.2022. The salient features of the circular are given below. In this connection, we like to point out that our Federation wrote a letter, dt. 25-01-2022, to Central Office Chairperson and ED(P), regarding the improvements that are to be considered in our Group Mediclaim Scheme which was enclosed to our circular dt. 13-02-2022, as an attachment. However, we can clearly see that there has been no significant impact of all the various points raised in it.
Some of the noteworthy changes are:
a. The Premium rates proposed show a hike of upto 25% over the previous year! The maximum limit for Floater Cover is raised to Rs. 75 lakhs from the current position of Rs. 50 lakhs. However, there is no change in the room rent limits, over last year. Even for the increased cover of Rs. 75 lakhs the room rent limit is only Rs. 10000.
b. An option to increase the existing floater cover has also been provided. Those who had not been able to increase the floater cover earlier can now avail this opportunity.
c. one-time option to include the independent children (both married or unmarried) has been provided. The existing cover for the dependent children will continue even after they become independent. The last date for these is given as 23-03-2022. The proforma to be used for opting for the change-over to the higher level is also given as part of the Circular.
We would like to suggest to all our members to opt for the increase in the floater cover to 40 lacs minimum, as the Room rent of Rs. 10000 per day starts from 40 lacs upto 75 lacs. Our experience, as gathered from many members, is that after the Covid 19 pandemic all medical expenses have almost got doubled. Many of our members inform us that it was very difficult for them to get rooms for Rs. 7500, allowed by the Insurance Company in cities, for the floater covers of less than 40 lacs.
As you must be aware, in case of admission to a Room Rent at rates exceeding the prescribed limits, the reimbursement/payment of all other expenses incurred at the Hospital, with the exception of cost of medicines, drugs and implants, shall be effected as per eligible room category (reduced proportionately) in the Hospital.
We hope the respective mediclaim administering offices will contact the pensioners, regarding the changes.
Our Federation took up the case of preferential allotment of LIC IPO to retirees, as it was made available to in-service employees. But the SEBI had stated that retired employees are not eligible.
The CO circular co per ER-A 286 2022. DT.08.03.2022, on Mediclaim and our Federation Circular No. DK-06, dt. 08-03-22 are enclosed as attachments.
With Greetings
Secretary.
Encl: As above.
