E circular No.DK/2 18-01-2022
Dear Friends,
Reg: Assessing where we stand now ...
I must apologize to all of you for not having sent in a Circular ahead of Sankaranti, Pongal or Lohiri, greeting you and family on the very special occasion. I was Hospitalized for Covid and had to remain in isolation during that period. I am now back home and out of the Quarantine limits, and so thought of taking the first opportunity to send in this message. Hope all of you did have a good Festival period to rejoice with family.
I thought it might be useful to pass on a few learnings from my period of sickness. One thing is pretty clear, that if afflicted with Covid 19 now, hospitalization is not required for most people. My own case was because I had co morbidities like BP and Sugar and of Age 76. Even I could have remained in Home care, had I not been extra cautious. All that is required is to take Paracetamol tablets, Vitamin C tablets, Zinc tablets, three times steam inhalation, salt water goggling and keep monitoring Temperature. Within 5 to 7 days it subsides and another 5 days of isolation is all that is needed to round it off.
Yes, an important point I observed is that those not vaccinated may not come into this category, I have referred to here. A young lady in her early 40s was in ICU, with badly damaged Lungs, because she had somehow not taken the Vaccinations. The Hospital Chief Doctor was mentioning that the Vaccinations definitely play a life-support role in protecting the lungs from being attacked by the virus.
Prior to my Hospitalization, on the 9th of Jan 2022, I sent in a message by Whatsapp to Sri M R Kumar the Chairperson of LIC. I thought I needed to follow up on matters I had discussed with him on 7th Oct 2021, when he visited Chennai. The Text of that message is being carried here in this Circular.
FEDERATION OF RETIRED LIC CLASS I OFFICERS' ASSOCIATIONS

Dear Sri Kumarji,
My sincere Greetings to you for a Happy New Year.
1. When I met you on 7th Oct 2021 at Chennai, I requested you to take a second look at the 92-93 Retirees’ matter, and you had agreed. LIC could give it to M C Jain who got a mandate from the Supreme Court. Others similarly placed, just a few, still surviving, are waiting for justice . Of course many including Sri KPN have passed away. It may be a bit late in the day now to catch up, but never too late, I guess. You can still do it, and it will be better than not doing it at all! It involves no big outlay of money, and truly speaking, no necessity to back to Govt. too. When the highest Court of the land has held it good, why wait for anything else? Please Sir ….
2. Family Pension looked like a walk in the garden, only a matter of time… but now after nearly 3 months of the IBA implementation Circular to Bank Retirees, we are still where we were… I think this one needs your push too, as a catalyst, to make it happen..
3. The additional Pension for those above 80 in age, is another issue that simply is waiting without any ostensible cause. Can this be followed up yet again at your level, sir….
We are getting a bit edgy, that your term too is closing in, and we do not know what can come after, if these still remain unresolved! …
Please help .. Regards
D.KRISHNAN
General Secretary
The Family Pension matter is still elusive, though the known obstacles of GIC Pensioners too wanting to board the bus, has been seen through. Now it is a matter of time before the Notification is finalized and published. Having waited so long, let us exercise some more patience till the matter is finally clinched.
There are the odd indications from some circles that the Pension Revision matter too is under active Govt. consideration. With Elections coming up in 5 states, the Govt. may choose to hasten the process before the mandatory ban starts to operate in one way or another. There is still no clarity as to when our Case in SC will come up for Hearing. The IBA Chairman in a recent chat with the Mewar Chamber of Commerce has clearly mentioned that “pension Revision of Bank Pensioners is a very burning matter and that there is every possibility of it being done by March 2022.” Well that keeps up our hopes too for the LIC Pensioners.
Meanwhile I understand that the AGMs of Thiruvananthapuram and Kottayam Associations of Kerala have been held in the recent past. My compliments to them for this effort.
Another very significant information is that the ‘Eastern News’ published from Kolkata every month with colourful pages of news and views, now is on the verge of a momentous milestone, that of bringing out its 100th Issue. I take this opportunity to congratulate them for this unique Team -Building achievement.
So until next time, and with sincere good wishes to all.
D.Krishnan.
General Secretary
