Dear Friends,

Reg: Clarification from in-service Federation…

I am bringing out here the text of the exchange of messages on WhatsApp between Sri Raj Kumar Pillai, GS of in-service Class I Federation, and me on the subject of Life Membership call, given by the in-service Federation to the retired Officers. It will be seen that there was, in the pre-2000 times, a move to enlist Retired officers as Life Members so that they could get the Circulars and keep themselves informed of matters, even into their Retirement. But with the formation of the Federation for Retired Class I Officers in the year 2000, this became an anachronism, and of no interest or value to the Retired Officers.

To now go back to those times, and re-invoke from the dead, the Life Membership concept, for the sake of some collections, from out of the Arrears received by the Retired Officers, was certainly not in order. This has been virtually admitted to by the Gen Secy. of the in-service Class I Federation, who now re-states his commitment to us, to help in building up our numbers. I think we should leave it at that, as they may also not pursue this matter with any active interest. That it was meant more to find a reason for collections from Arrears of the Retired Officers, who benefited from the recent Wage Settlement, is clear from their Circular itself, where this item figures under the sub-heading “Levy Collections”.

I would however like to re-state that our efforts at enlisting the Retiring Officers should be systematically done as already stated in the earlier communication DK-63.

The Whatsapp messages exchanged with Sri Raj Kumar Pillai , Gen. Secy Class I Federation.

Sri Raj KumarI am looking forward to a quick reply to my mail sent this morning. It becomes very important if our cordial relation so far, is not to go into troubled waters. Your call gave us a jolt. Retired Officers are legitimately part of us. If your intentions were not so serious with any long term intent, then you will need to assure us on that. I still believe that you were not out for a contest in the retired area. Please do see my mail and give me your quick response, so that mistaken impressions do not build up.

D.Krishnan.

Reply from Rajkumar:

Life membership is not a new concept. It was there since long back. We enhanced the fees. That's all. It is only a limited membership to participate in GC and eligibility to get circulars. Hardly 25 people are there. It has nothing to do with membership in retired officers Association. We do not prohibit any one.

Yes, I extended the support for enrolment of members. But so far none of your office bearers have contacted me or anyone for this.

Regarding other accusations, I do not want to answer as I don't want to spoil our good relationship.

Let me make it clear. There is no parallel track here and we are not interested in entering your area.

Rajkumar.

(In fact it was included in the Circular, as a clarification as requested by some leaders.)

Thanks, Raj Kumar, for the clarification... I thought you should have taken us into confidence   before giving a call like this.

The 25 members you talk about would have come in there at a time prior to 2000, when there was no separate representative wing for the retired officers.

One such, who became life member then, tells me, how you never gave any value to their presence, even when they attended your meetings in those days. Historically, that being the fact, I would not expect you to now invoke a pre-historic fossil to say it has been there all through. It is natural we see a sense of the red, when you exhumed a forgotten past to give it life, if only for the collection that it enables. Collections from Arrears of retired officers may be alright, if they willingly contribute. But that should not involve any membership drive as now made out by you.

I have always held our relations to be of the most cordial nature, and mutually supportive in form and content.

Our lack of presence all over, and the resultant slowness in bringing all retired officers under our banner, is part of our process of evolving as an Organization, which should not be taken advantage of under any historical pretext. I value our relationship very much and particularly our mutual understanding and friendship at a personal level. I hope you are able to see the point and not hold out on your call as a Prestige aspect.

Regards

D.Krishnan.

There is no conflict of interest. The membership in Federation ceases on retirement. Life membership is only honorary and we will definitely ask them to join you, rather than Rief. But you have to give us contact details. Others are aggressive and they will take advantage otherwise.

Raj Kumar.

Thanks, Raj Kumar for your latest message, where you have said there is no conflict of interest and that Life membership is only Honorary. Thanks also for renewing the old assurance that you will assist in retiring members joining in with us.

D.Krishnan

 Greetings to all

D.Krishnan.
