Dear Members,

First and foremost,  I pray for the health and welfare of all our members, the senior and super senior citizens, and their families. I also wish our members a happy NATIVE NEW YEAR Ugadhi, Vishu and Tamil Puthandu.

I am sure you will appreciate that it is only because of the unprecedented situation caused by the COVID 19 Pandemic,  which when we were about to heave a  sigh of relief that it is slowly subsiding,  made  its re-entry in another form,  and made  even our routine organisational meetings, impossible  for more than  a year now. However, when the Government, with the idea that the pandemic will subside conducted the General Election for the states, we thought that it is time that we also restart  our normal activities.  But to the  dismay of every one,  the Covid virus has its virulent activities, spoiling our idea of having a meeting.  Hence in consultation with our office bearers,  we thought that no more time should be lost in reaching out to our members  informing them the current situation, instead of keeping them in dark, about the AGMs.

We had earlier thought that the AGM for the year ended 2019 -2020, normally  due in May 2020, that could not be conducted due to unavoidable circumstances, can  be held via video conferencing. But most of us felt that it may not be a necessary exercise, with  more Septuagenarians and  Octogenarians and a few Nonagenarians  as our members, who may not be comfortable with this idea.   The alternative course was discussed among the office bearers and it was finally decided that we can have the meeting during the month of February. Even there, there was hesitation among some of our members that   should at all  we expose these seniors and super seniors to the pandemic situation, as the medical advice is also unfavourable for a meeting.

When our dilemma is on this, a  suggestion has NOW been made by many of our well-meaning members that since another Working year (2020-2021) has also come  to a close,  it would be wise, practical and desirable to combine both the AGMs to be held in a single meeting and conducted in the proper manner and in our usual way in a happier atmosphere by the end of May or beginning of June 2021, provided the Governments’ restrictions are relaxed by then. Another factor would be that our members would have by then completed their two dosages of Vaccine jabs which would boost both their morale and immunity levels.

In a normal situation,  the above idea calls for a mandate from general members (at least to the extent of the number required for quorum in normal meetings). Now in this odd, unexpected, and extraordinary situation, this formality can take a backseat, as it is inexorable and a   fait-accompli that no meeting can take place. Hence I take the liberty of conveying to you  this suggestion of clubbing both the AGMs and have  them as afore-said. I am confident that this  will have your kind approval. Even our President who has been wanting for long to step down and  insisting for an early relief is supportive of the proposal for conducting a combined AGMs for two years for the practical reason that  there will be hopefully less pandemic restrictions after sometime.  I therefore appeal to you once again for the approval of this proposition.

Once the date for AGM is fixed, the notice will be sent to you by post, along with the secretary’s report for the years ended 31/3/2020 & 2021, though  there has been no possibility of worthwhile developments  or any major activity to be covered for the said period, excepting the narration regarding the Federation’s continual efforts with regard to our pending issues. God willing it is possible that some improvements can also be reported.  However, on my part I have been contacting the retired  class I officers of LIC   for membership and in that process been successful to a certain extent, by adding about forty two  members since our last AGM on 5-05-2019.  The efforts are still on. Thanks to some of  our members who have helped me in identifying them. I shall also be thankful if our other members also help me in this regard.

Perhaps, ironically, the period was marked by the demise of a very large number of our colleagues compared to the previous years.

The  audited or unaudited statement of accounts for the said periods will also accompany the report. You may kindly let me have your approval or suggestions modifications etc. for placing the same before the AGM whenever it is held.

I am aware and grateful that no member has raised any issue relating to the holding of AGM, as everyone is aware of the  unprecedented situation during this period of more than a year,  on the restriction of the meetings, especially for an organisation like ours where the youngest is in his sixties and is not supposed to partake in any event of public exposure.  However,   as a democratic organization it is necessary that we go by the SPIRIT of the bye-laws governing our functioning.  Hence the circular.

I look forward to hearing from you on this  formal but important organisational issue, by mail or SMS or whatsapp. to my number 9840932943

With Greetings to all and hopes for better days to come for all of us.

For and on behalf of the office-bearers and Committee Members

Healthfully yours

V R Krishnan

Secretary.

Appeal by Sridharan G.N 6:02 PM (13 minutes ago) FAITH AND PRAYER  deserve to be considered as one of the weapons to fight the virus menace. It is  not without purpose that even the Westerners believe in the old dictum - 'many things are wrought by prayers'. Gandhiji said that the tenets of Hindu religion and faith has universal application .Our ancient texts do prescribe prayers as a panacea for all human ailments. For instance in Mahabharata - vide Dwadasa nama pancharam an appendix to Vishnu Sahasranamam - a sloka in the words of Bishma pitamah runs as follows: "Achyutha,Anantha,Govinda namocharana beshajath nasyanti sakala rohath ,Satyam satyam vadhamyaham" That is, he swears that uttering the various names of the Lord will cure a person  of  ALL his diseases. In another sloka it is said that even water from holy Ganga can be good enough a medicine (oushadam) if only we believe the Lord (sriman Narayana) as the doctor.(vaidy
