"Madam,
I humbly introduce myself as C H Mahadevan,a retired Executive Director of Life Insurance Corporation of India aged 77 years and one of the more than 50000 pensioners of the LIC.
At the outset, kindly accept my congratulations on your occupying the prestigious assignment as Finance Minister of our nation in the re-elected Hon'ble Narendra Modi Government.
I wish to inform you that during your tenure as Minister in the earlier period of Modiji's Government,in 2014,I had a privileged opportunity of meeting you briefly at Hyderabad along with three of my retired colleagues on behalf of the Retired LIC Class I Officers' Association, Hyderabad when we submitted a memorandum of grievances of LIC pensioners. However unfortunately the pensioners stand where they were with anomaly in Dearness Relief (in case of pre-August 1997 retirees) and non-upgradation of pension for over 20 years even though our pension rules notified by the Government of India were patterned on CCS Pension Rules 1972.
So far ,the only relief the pensioners got was a revision in the Dearness Relief formula ordered by the Delhi High Court on 27/4/2017 for pre-August 1997 retirees.
Presently there are 6 Special Leave Petitions pending in the Supreme Court after the litigation for removal of DR anomaly and upgradation of pension started 20 years ago.During this span of time more than 15000 pensioners have exited the world without obtaining justice.
The pathetic situation that is prevailing today is that a Chairman or Managing Director who retired prior to 1/1/1996 is drawing less monthly pension today than what is drawn by an Assistant of LIC who retired after 1/8/2012 and who will be retiring in future. This dispensation severely impairs the dignity of life of such top management officers of LIC
.Needless to emphasize the plight of lesser mortals of retired Executive Directors and below upto Sweepers.
The approach of the present Government towards rendering justice in the matter of Pension even to the members of the unorganized sector reflects its noble intention to provide social justice to senior citizens in the country in all segments of the population.
Reserve Bank of India has recently announced a scheme of upgradation of pension duly notified by the Government from March 2019.
I would therefore humbly appeal to your good self,to take pity on LIC pensioners and help them with upgradation of pension on the pattern of RBI with provision for compensation to them for past losses, to family pensioners and also provide compensation to legal heirs of thousands of deceased pensioners who died without any relief during their life time.
Kindly pardon me for encroaching upon your valuable time by this hurried mail.
Yours sincerely,
C H Mahadevan
Executive Director (LIC)(Retd)
