However the interesting information we get from the write up is that Mrs Padma (whose photograph is also featured)secured a Ph.d at 70 and authored a book at 80! Ecircular No.DK/22                         12-05-2018    Friends , After a flurry of e-circulars, in quick succession, going up to no DK 21, covering the report on matters in SC leading up to further date fixed for Hearing on 24-7-2018, there seems to have been a lull on the communication front. Yes, I have been travelling, for one, and for another I have been busy grappling with some persistent medical issues in the family. I have so far attended 4 Annual General Body Meetings of 4 Association Units covering Thiruvananthapuram, Chennai, Ernakulam and Thrissur in that order. I found members very eager to see the end of our SC litigation and get some good results. Instead of just telling them on matters at the logistical, and periphery levels, regarding dates for Hearing , their constant postponement, briefing of our Counsels etc., I felt,  I should let our members know about the kind of issues that are being handled in the  case in SC.      I thought  they should have their

Gen Secy D.Krishnan on Banks DR case judgement by SC

Ecircular No.DK/24                                                      17-05-2018   Friends,    We informed you just a day prior that the judgment in the Banks DR case was listed to be delivered by the SC yesterday (16-5-2018).  The judgment came and has not brought joy to the Bank Retirees prior to 1-11-2002. In their case the formula for calculating DR , which was hitherto on a graded basis , was changed to one single rate compensating the price- rise to the extent of 100% from 1-11-2002 for retirees,  prospectively from that date. The Pre- Nov -2002 Retirees felt aggrieved and went to Court. The High Court of Calcutta gave a favourable Order saying such differences in rates between retirees  separated by time  was discriminatory. The United Bank of India, whose employees had gone to Court , went in appeal to SC and this judgment covers that result, which unfortunately overturned the Calcutta HC judgment. Some grounds spelt out were: 1. The Pre-2002 (Nov) R

A Super Senior. She does what she should be doing.(opines a reader of our blog)

4 weeks ago Age No Bar 4 min read #AgeNoBar with Snehlata Bhatnagar “ I look up the latest trends on the internet along with my grand daughters and make clothes for them — I feel like a designer!” COURTESY; www.seniority.in She was married into a progressive family, where moved around quite a bit due to her husband’s work. An age-old skill that her mother had taught her came in handy and she would make clothes for her family to save money for the future. Time and health didn’t allow her to pursue it further but as her heart and universe would will it, at the age of 86, she has become the designer to her grand children. Her Story: “I was born in Lahore before the partition and grew up in Delhi after, with not only my parents and siblings but also my uncles and their families. It was always a full house and I enjoyed being the youngest of the lot! If I was up to mischief, I always got some sort of bribe with sweets so that I would behave. Tho

V.R.KRISHNAN, SECRETARY OF CHENNAI ASSOCIATION WRITES

Friends, Greetings from Retired  LIC Class I  Officers  Association Chennai. The AGM,  as scheduled,   took place in a grand manner.  About  75 members participated. A brief report of the proceedings is enclosed as attachment. As  the newly elected secretary of the Association, for the current term, i would like to share certain things  with you. Everyone of us  know that  our   All India Federation depends on all its 19 affiliated units for its functioning.   Quite naturally  the Associated Units  depend on the members.  Ultimately without the cooperation and support of the members Federation cannot exist.   Now we are waging a battle  with the Central Government & the management combine in the court and also simultaneously be in   dialogue with the Management.   As retired persons we have limitations in carrying on our battle in other forms. we depend on the members for two things.   1. Increasing the number of members.  Our  request is  -  every on
