Ref SKA/7                                                                                         Dated  8-09-2022

Dear Members.

Greetings to you all  on the 66th Anniversary of LIC. At the same time I extend a lot of good wishes to our members in Kerala state at the occasion of ONAM festival. May  King Mahabali  bestow  upon all of us good health and happiness.  Since my last circular our activities have increased but so far there seems to be no tangible achievement on any matter.  On legal front our case in Supreme Court did come up for Hearing on 1.9.2022 when the court was about to rise. Some senior counsels did plead vehemently to  the bench to start hearing but the bench was of the opinion that our case would take a lot of time and therefore they adjourned our case for the month of November 2022. It is quite disappointing that such a long adjournment has been given by the court . As per computerised list of the Supreme Court, our case is listed on 3rd of November 2022.

As regards notification of Improvement in Family Pension and other matters referred by LIC to Finance Ministry earlier, despite my writing to the Finance Minister  Smt Nirmala Sitharaman on 1.07.2022 followed by a  reminder on 08.08.2022, nothing seems to be moving in the Deptt. of Financial services till now. We are seeking time to meet the Secretary DFS to expedite the notification. However,  in the banking sector IBA has invited the workmen and Officers forums separately on 23rd  September 2022 to discuss on residual items. Let us wait and watch for  what comes out of it.

Our campaign of getting the Appeal cum memorandum forwarded by MPs to Finance Minister Smt Sitharaman is in full swing.  As on date about 35 MPs from all corners of the country,  (both the Ruling party and  non-ruling parties), have forwarded our Memorandum to Finance minister .  In this campaign Odisha,  Kerala, Karnataka and Uttarakhand units have made  exceptionally good efforts. My salute to leadership of these units. As a consequence of this campaign and pouring in of Memorandums in the  Finance Ministry,  there seems to be a rethinking in the Ministry on Pension Updation issue. The letter dated 01.08.2022 issued by the Under Secretary of DFS to LIC ,seeking  their comments on Pension Updation is a proof of change in approach of Ministry and is a positive indicator for us. As soon as the letter came in public domain , I sent an email to Chairperson       Sri M . R.  Kumar  in the late hours of 1st September with copies to MD Sri Patnaikji and ED ( Personnel ) & ED ( E&OS), requesting them to send  positive comments to the Deptt. of Financial Services.  I  also requested them to take an early decision  in the matter of Pre 1986 retirees and payment of pension on last working day of the month , recently referred to them by us.  The Copy of email is annexed below. As a follow up step, we are planning to have a meeting with Chairperson / MDs  and EDs personnel, E&OS and Legal,  in the last week of September or 1st week of October 2022.

With Greetings.

Long Live Federation.

                                                                                                                                     S.K.Awasthi

                                                                                                                               Genl.Secretary

Appeal by Sridharan G.N 6:02 PM (13 minutes ago) FAITH AND PRAYER  deserve to be considered as one of the weapons to fight the virus menace. It is  not without purpose that even the Westerners believe in the old dictum - 'many things are wrought by prayers'. Gandhiji said that the tenets of Hindu religion and faith has universal application .Our ancient texts do prescribe prayers as a panacea for all human ailments. For instance in Mahabharata - vide Dwadasa nama pancharam an appendix to Vishnu Sahasranamam - a sloka in the words of Bishma pitamah runs as follows: "Achyutha,Anantha,Govinda namocharana beshajath nasyanti sakala rohath ,Satyam satyam vadhamyaham" That is, he swears that uttering the various names of the Lord will cure a person  of  ALL his diseases. In another sloka it is said that even water from holy Ganga can be good enough a medicine (oushadam) if only we believe the Lord (sriman Narayana) as the doctor.(vaidy
