Reg: Our Federation proposed EC meeting by circulation &
info-sharing by LIC with in-service unions
Friends,
It gives me immense pleasure to greet all of you ahead of the New Year 2021, hoping that we will have a number of matters concerning the Pensioners getting resolved in the course of the New Year.
The formal holding of the Meeting of the Executive committee due in Dec 2020, is to be substituted this time around, by a ‘Meeting by Circulation’, of the Report of the General Secretary along with the Unaudited Statement of Accounts for the financial year that ended with 31-03-2020. This ‘Meeting by Circulation’ will also decide on the office of the President, which fell vacant after our beloved and respected Bali sab passed away on 12th of Dec 2020. A brief gist of matters discussed in the Report would also be communicated to the general members in due course.
As a matter of some concern for us pensioners, I thought I could pass on here the brief report of the renewed information- sharing exercise held on 21-12-2020, by the Management of LIC with the Employee representatives, and improvements in the offer made earlier:
“ The LIC Management called the Unions for a virtual Information Sharing Session on 21st December 2020. The LIC was represented by Sri M. R. Kumar, Chairman, MD; ED (P) and other officials of Personnel Department.
The ED (Personnel) gave a presentation on the business performance of LIC. The Managing Director, Md and Chairman, congratulated and complimented the employees for their support and co-operation and for the all round growth of the institution and called upon the employees to meet the challenges unitedly. He also made a Wage Offer of 16%, an improvement of 1% over the last offer.
There was more or less unanimity in the response of the various unions including the In-service LIC class I officers’ Federation. It was really a commendable approach on the part of the unions that out of the major five or six demands highlighted by them, two were the important matters concerning the pensioners. They are
(i) Follow up with the government to settle the issues recommended by LIC Board, especially improvements in family pension and
(ii) Updation of Pension which has become an urgent necessity to be taken up with the Government.
In this connection, I would like to remind our members that all the four unions of Class I, II, III & IV, in their joint representation to the chairman on 19-11-2020 devoted two paragraphs, first for the improvement of family pension and second for updation of pension as given to the pensioners of RBI. (Refer our circular DK-48 dt. 20-11-2020) ”
Meanwhile, I thought I should make a strategic move towards getting the LIC to send in its recommendations on the 3 major areas of our demand, viz., Pension up-gradation, Raising Family Pension to 30% from its present 15%, and seeking 5 yearly additions to Pension for 80 plus bracket of Pensioners in our group. Towards realization of this end, I have addressed a personal communication to Sri M R Kumar, suggesting to him to write to the Central Govt. recommending review of the Rules around static Pensions, in the context of the fast-changing cost scenario, as has been done in the case of Central Govt. Pensioners, as also that of the RBI. It is my hope that the Chairman might get to think on the lines indicated by me in the letter, and eventually to write to the Govt., as requested. My point is when Banks seem to be in the threshold of this big change-over, we should not be taken off-guard, if the principle stops with the Banks, just for want of the LIC not putting up its take on this matter.
So, hoping the year 2021 would usher in good tidings for the LIC Pensioner community, and taking this opportunity to Wish all of you and your family the very best of things, in the New Year, particularly good Health in these ravaged times of the Pandemic.
D.Krishnan
