Nature's fury has been unleashed in the state of Kerala, and
the human suffering and devastation of an unprecedented magnitude there, call
for a huge relief effort. Last year or so it was Assam, and in 2015 it was
Tamil Nad, and our Federation has always been sensitive to such needs of the
suffering multitude wherever it is. As Retired people, our efforts cannot be a
big one in terms of the quantum of money involved in such relief exercises. But
this is a call of conscience for our affected brethren, and we shall not be
found wanting, in reaching out to them, in whatever small measure we can, as
responsible citizens.
Time is of the essence here, and we shall not delay matters
by giving a general call to all the
Associations for making collections of specified amounts from members,
and later co-ordinating at Federation level. We suggest that each Association
take its own decision regarding money to be collected and send directly to the
Chief Minister's Distress Relief Fund, and keep the Federation informed . The
Chennai Assn has already taken the lead, and is sending out Rs5000/- as their contribution to the Relief Fund. It
would be very appropriate for all the Associations to respond in this manner,
and quickly at that, in view of the enormity of the terrible situation in
Kerala.
The Chief Minister's Disaster Relief Fund's A/C no
67319948232 with SBI, Thiruvananthapuram. IFSC Code no SBIN 0070028.
Since 'The Hindu' daily, published from Chennai, has also set
up a Relief Fund for Kerala , we could
also take advantage of their services in this regard, by drawing the cheque in
favour of 'The Hindu Relief Fund', and send the cheques to "The Hindu Relief Fund", Kasturi
Buildings, 859-860, Anna Salai, Chennai
600002. Hoping all of us would respond instantly to this call of their
conscience.
