Dear Friends,
Reg: Gandhi Jayanthi and our thoughts around it...
My humble pranams to the Mahatma, whose birth Anniversary falls this day. He not only liberated us from the British, but also from many evils that bedevilled our society. Our salutations, as a Federation, to his memory, to move forward with dedication and determination where unfair practices still stalk us.
I understand from certain sources, which can be described as reliable, that the Family Pension matter for the LIC Retirees too is under active processing in the Department of Financial Services. This must be true because the FM must have set her approval for the change, not just for the Banking services retirees alone, but for all public sector financial services Retirees. The gap in time, is simply a matter of logistics, where the complete terms and conditions accompanying the change should have been arrived at by the IBA for the Banks, and once done, the same to be made applicable across the other services, which remain to be brought under the scope of the change. So let us wait till it really happens. It will be a huge improvement for the LIC retirees, as the family we seek to protect, will continue to have its independence, with the near doubling of the Family Pension amount, from where it now stands at a rather low level.
Just the other day, I received a phone call from our President Sri P P Dhamija in Delhi. It was nice of him to have taken the initiative to speak to me about matters in general and the progress, or the lack of it, in our Court issues, in particular. After I apprised him of where things stood, he touched on the possibility of holding the General Council Meeting sometime in February. As for the likely venue, he said he might cause basic enquiries regarding Delhi, and later asked, if Chennai could also be a possible venue. I told him we would undertake to make some enquiries for considering Chennai as a possible venue for the GC. We could also see, if any other Centre, that could be reached easily from most places in India, could come up as a proposal, of a voluntary nature.
Meanwhile there was a whatsapp clip that said, Air India is proposing to offer 50% concession on travel Tickets for Senior Citizens within India. If that comes through soon, it would really be a big advantage for members of our group.
The last Circular , DK 72, carried an error, in the proposed Date for our next Hearing in the SC, which actually is 9th of Nov 2021 instead of 15th Nov as mentioned there. I owe this correction to Sri V K Jain , our Senior member from Delhi who pointed it out to me.
Incidentally, I may inform members, that apart from Odisha, the first Assn. to transfer collections of Donations to the Federation, out of Arrears of pay received by the Retirees of post 1-8-2017 period, Nashik and Thiruvananthapuram too have transferred to the Federation, amounts collected from such Retirees of post 1-8-2017. I request the other Associations too to make the collections and send it to the Federation, to add strength to our future capacity to fight for the cause of the Retirees.
Members might have come across an interesting Advertisement by the LIC, calling for applications for the post of Chief Financial Officer for LIC. This new post is in anticipation of the kind of changes that might spring up all around in the Organization later, as things unfold. The Remuneration indicated is around 75 lakhs per annum on Cost to Company basis! The age required is between 45 and 57 on completed basis. The post will be for 3 years on contract, or age 63 , whichever falls earlier. So, the look and feel of our Public sector LIC is rapidly changing over for the new avatar.
My sincere Greetings to all
D.Krishnan
General Secretary
