I don't know whether any LIC pensioner's noteworthy contribution in any other field has received any state recognition- state or central till now. However i would like to report a latest one.
Shri.P Gunasekar received recently an award from the Govt.of TN for his contribution to the growth of Tamil language & Literature. At a state function held on 1 st feb. the state CM honoured him with a citation and presented him with a shawl and a cheque for Rs 1 Lakh from state exchequer.
Shri Gunasekar had joined LIC in 1957 and initially worked for some years as 'Language Assistant ' in the Publicity dept of the central office at Mumbai.Later he worked in some divisions in the south and I could guess the depth of his interest and mastery in Tamil Literature when we both worked together in the Kozhikode DO in early eighties. He retired as Manager (sales) from the coimbatore DO.
He had authored and published as many as 41 books in Tamil ,with two of them bagging a prize from the central govt. and one from the state Govt. A voracious reader and a prolific writer he has been vigorously continuing his literary pursuit even after he lost his wife a couple of years back.I was stunned when he told me yesterday that two more of his works is under print !!
We should all be really proud of Gunasekar.May his tribe increase.

Sri P.Gunasekaran
