Dear Friends,

Pleasant welcome to 2021

Peace Out, 2020 - Goodbye to a Tough Year in a Healthy Way

It is true   that the year 2020 bestowed us with a lot of hardships, but  experts say that it is  important to move on with gratitude and perspective as 2021 begins.  “Sweet are the uses of adversity” as the saying goes,  let us  not be disheartened by the difficulties.  Our attitude makes a lot of difference. We, then get to learn many new things which will help us in the future. They recommend people shift their perspective, unplug when they can, and be kind to themselves as 2021 approaches.

Is it possible to look back on this past year and find positives? Yes! Most people agree that 2020 was a year of constant, shifting, and often daunting challenges.  We suddenly had our lives put on pause. Many lost jobs. Children had to learn from home while parents juggled that demand while working from that same space. Many of us gained weight. Many of us lost a loved one. Weddings were postponed. Parties were cancelled. Our annual meeting, which we look forward to with enthusiasm, got postponed indefinitely. So, the idea of looking back on this year and assessing things may seem unproductive.

But can we not dispassionately examine?

Ellie Schnitt , a social media influencer  tweeted “Hey, honestly, if you achieved anything at all this year, even if you just managed to actually get out of bed and shower a decent amount, that’s a huge accomplishment and I’m very proud of you.”

As pensioners barring a few times when we got our pension late, we were  neither denied nor got any reduction nor our DA impounded.  We relearnt the art of keeping ourselves hygienic. We had a lot of time to be spent with our kinfolk and understood their difficulties and vice versa and more and more.  No need to dwell on these positives. Yes!  It is important that we take the time to dig into the past year and find those silver linings.

Let us shift our perspective as it is easy to get caught up in what’s wrong in our lives and miss what’s positive or going well. Unplug the mindless scrolling on  unwanted thoughts, increasing our stress, and anxiety.

Why not we   be  kind to ourselves?  Pause to take a deep breath, a nap, a friendly chat, listening patiently to our people, enjoying good music and whatever we need that day to help us remember that we are important too. In short, we are just taking care of ourselves and as well others who surround us. In other words, self-compassion works.

It is HOPE on which we live

H.O.P.E.   -- HOLD  ON  PAIN  ENDS

H.O.P.E.   -- HOLD  ON   PROSPERITY   EMERGES.

Hope is the grace of endurance in the stormy days.” “Never lose hope.

What is in store for us in the New Year to be hopeful?  The banks which were always considered to be our harbingers are shortly getting their settlement. The Finance Ministry, which is the one that decides our fate, on any issue, has already shown compassion with regard to the bank retirees’ pension updation issue.  It feels like only a matter of time before we follow suit.  It is understood that if the present trend continues we may get more than 80 slabs of DA. (see box)

The LIC management has already offered 16% in the info. Sharing session on 21 -12-  20.     All the in-service unions in LIC had unanimously demanded the issues of updation of pension and family pension be solved early.      Let us be enthusiastic,  while exhibiting patience.

Patience is not the ability to wait, but the ability to keep a good attitude while waiting.” “One minute of patience, ten years of peace.” “With love and patience, nothing is impossible.” “Patience and perseverance have a magical effect before which difficulties disappear and obstacles vanish.”

CPI, in the new series, for Oct 20 - 119.5, Nov.20 -119.9

Assuming it remains the same for Dec.20 also, DA increase payable from Feb. 2021 will be 82 slabs

Let us pray for a beneficial and healthy 2021.

Wishing you all a VERY HAPPY NEW YEAR  2021.

Hopefully yours

For and on behalf of the Office Bearers and Committee Members

V.R.KRISHNAN

secretary

Appeal by Sridharan G.N 6:02 PM (13 minutes ago) FAITH AND PRAYER  deserve to be considered as one of the weapons to fight the virus menace. It is  not without purpose that even the Westerners believe in the old dictum - 'many things are wrought by prayers'. Gandhiji said that the tenets of Hindu religion and faith has universal application .Our ancient texts do prescribe prayers as a panacea for all human ailments. For instance in Mahabharata - vide Dwadasa nama pancharam an appendix to Vishnu Sahasranamam - a sloka in the words of Bishma pitamah runs as follows: "Achyutha,Anantha,Govinda namocharana beshajath nasyanti sakala rohath ,Satyam satyam vadhamyaham" That is, he swears that uttering the various names of the Lord will cure a person  of  ALL his diseases. In another sloka it is said that even water from holy Ganga can be good enough a medicine (oushadam) if only we believe the Lord (sriman Narayana) as the doctor.(vaid...
