RETIRED LIC CLASS
I OFFICERS’ ASSOCIATION – CHENNAI (Affiliated
to Federation of Retd. Class I Officers’
Associations)
Dt.
15-12-2017
GENERAL COUNCIL MEETING
OF THE FEDERATION
The
ninth biennial General Council meeting
of the Federation was held, as scheduled at Mumbai on 8th December
2017. Our association was represented by
M/s G. N. Sridharan, M. Arunachalam,
D.Krishnan, P.A.Sivakumaran, V.R.Krishnan and T.N.Krishnamurthy.
Shri
N.P.Bali, President took the chair and stressed, among other things, the need
to plan our approach in regard to the
pending issues concerning the pensioners. The General Secretary Shri
G.N.Sridharan then presented his report, for the period December 2015 to
December 2017, and as many as 16 members from different units spoke. It must be
mentioned that problems of Pensioners took a back seat and there were hectic
canvassing, cross-consultations on the issue of “change of Leadership”
spearheaded by Mumbai, Delhi, Bangalore and Kolkata associations. However, the
General Secretary’s Report as also the audited statement of Accounts, presented
by Shri R.M.Dalal, Treasurer, were adopted.
Resolutions
sponsored originally by Bangalore, Delhi, Kolkata and Chennai were then taken up. On
pensioners’ issues our omnibus resolution was passed urging the chairman and
other top executives of LIC to be proactive and not shirk their responsibility.
Some of the issues where the management can independently decide like fixation of pension for 92-93 retirees
and those whose dates of birth falls on the first day of the calendar month,
quarterly review of DR, domiciliary expenses etc..
Resolutions
on organizational matters involved considerable discussions till late in the
evening. Bangalore and Delhi Associations had moved more or less identical
resolutions for creating a new post of ‘organizing/coordination secretary. Our (Chennai)
Association had sponsored a resolution expressing that creation of
additional posts would amount to creation of another power-center, which will
not be conducive to the smooth functioning of the Federation, particularly when
we are more concerned with the early
termination of the agonizing litigation of our major issues going on in the
supreme court. After discussions all the three resolutions of Bangalore, Delhi
and Chennai were decided to be kept in abeyance till the next GC. There
were a couple of organizational resolutions like the one fixing the duration of
the GC to be two days instead of one day and they were passed unanimously.
Elections
were then taken up. Our president Shri G.N.
Sridharan, whose services for the cause of the pensioners are well-known to our
members, expressed that it was not his
intention to hold the post of the General Secretary for his life
time, but had only proposed that he be allowed to stay only for a short period
of one year or less till the court case gets over. It was however not acceptable to the
vociferous votaries of the ‘change of leadership’ theory. Ultimately, Shri D.Krishnan, our Chennai
Association Vice-President, was unanimously declared elected as the General
Secretary. We are sure that our members will be happy that one of our
Association activists will be at the helm of our Federation’s affairs and we
are sure our members will wholeheartedly wish him well.
The
meeting terminated with a vote of thanks followed by a dinner by the Mumbai
Association.
With
greetings,
P. A. SIVAKUMARAN
SECRETARY
PS.
1. Our case is coming up for
hearing in the Supreme Court on 10th of January 2018. As all of us
are aware, conducting a case in the
supreme court costs us heavily. Though we are not longing for any legal battle
we are pushed to this extreme step. We
had been appealing to our members to contribute for the legal fund, at Rs. 1000, per member. We have on rolls nearly 350 members. But so far we had received the contribution
only from 86 members. For an Association
of our stature, having the headquarters and leadership with us, this cannot be
termed as a good show, compared to the other units affiliated to the Federation. We once again appeal to our
members who had not so far donated to the legal fund, to send in your contribution of Rs.1000/=
(Rupees one thousand only), immediately
to the Secretary at the above address or to our Joint Secretary, Shri
V.R.Krishnan, (H-9-B, Krupa Colony, 44th
Street, First Avenue, Ashok Nagar, CHENNAI -83. Phone : LL. 04424896125, Mobile 9840932943.), by crossed account
payee cheque, drawn favouring “RETIRED
LIC CLASS I OFFICERS ASSOCIATION”
For online payment we give below the details.
Name of the A/c: Retired LIC Class I
Officers Association, Bank:
City Union Bank Ltd., 154/319, Thambu ChettyStreet, G.T. Chennai – 1, IFS code: CIUB0000043. MICR code: 600054006.
Those remitting the amount online may please send us a SMS, their name
and address to identify and send the receipt.
2. Our Association membership strength is very less compared to the
other metro centers. The strength of any
retired personnel by nature gets depleted.
Hence we feel that it is incumbent on our members to canvass for
membership to strengthen the organization. We hence request our
members to inform either the secretary
or the joint secretary, whenever they
come across any retired class I officer, who has not become our member, their
phone numbers or address by phone or SMS, to help us to contact them to make
them our members.
3. We are updating our records with the email ids of our members. Those
members who had not given their mail ids so far, please send a test mail to the
mail id vrkrishnan46@gmail.com with your details, especially
the membership number.
