HEARING IN SUPREME COURT ON 10TH JANUARY 2018

Friends, This is just to keep you posted about a Meeting that we had here in Chennai on the 23rd of Dec. 2017. Sri R.Rajagopalan's (Legal Co Member, Bengaluru) visit to Chennai was the immediate impetus for the Meeting. Those who attended the Meeting included Sri R. Rajagopalan, Sri Arunachalam, Sri P A Sivakumaran and Sri V R Krishnan and of course Sri D Krishnan, the undersigned. Sri G N Sridharan could not attend due to travel plans on the day. 1. First matter discussed related to the Hearing in the SC scheduled for 10th of Jan 2018 at Delhi. The general feeling was that not much was expected to happen on that day as LIC/Govt of India are yet to file their Counter to our Petition, and on the 10 th , they may seek some more time for filing their response. We talked to Sri V K Jain at Delhi on this matter and advised him that he should take the initiative in co-ordinating with our counsel Shri Garg to ensure that we are appropriately represented for the Hearing due on ...

WE NOW PERHAPS FLOAT AT A HIGHER LEVEL !!! ( TITLE GIVEN BY EDITOR ! )

Dear Friends, Our CO has by its circular dt 27-12-2017, has increased the compulsory sum insured. The existing compulsory limits of 3 L, 4 L and 6 L are revised upwards to 5 L, 6 L and 10 L respectively. However, the upper limit of floater cover including the optional cover remains unchanged.   The ratio of premium apportionment for basic cover (only) between employee/retiree and the corporation remains unchanged at 1:3. Two aspects require attention at CO, viz., 1) in view of the change in basic limits,  the sum of optional cover is bound to be lower, and consequently there must be downward revision in premium 2) it is logical that when limits are reset (revised), it is the rudimentary practice that option is also given to insured members to exercise the (increased) cover particularly in view of the possible changes in premium. In insurance fundamentals, greater is the percentage of opted members and coverage, lesser is the anti-selection, ...

TODAY IS 220 TH BIRTHDAY OF THE GREAT IMMORTAL POET MIRZA GHALIB

GN Sridharan condoles demise of N M Sundaram, the tallest leader of Trade Union Movement in LIC.

.   I have  just been informed of the sad demise of Shri NM Sundaram Former Gen. Secy of All India Insurance Employees Association today at chennai. He was 81 and reportedly suffered a massive cardiac arrest.                  Shri NM Sundaram was undoubtedly a tall leader of the Employees' Trade union movement in LIC. I had the privilege  of frequent interactions with him in the early nineties in my capacity as the then Gen Secy of the class 1 officers' Federation when the entire workforce of LIC were involved in a struggle to secure Pension as a retirement benefit. I recall with nostalgia that I was party to a joint  Memorandum  along with shri Sundaram and National federation of Class2  employees, submitted to the Govt.of India on our demand for pensionary benefit. That memorandum marked the beginning point for introduction of pension scheme in LIC.     ...

S,C,Kapoor passes away. GNS informs.

I received late last night a personal message from shri S. Srivastav Dir (per) conveying to me the sad news of the demise of Shri. SC kapoor at Mumbai yesterday.         Shri. kapoor's services to the causes of officers in service or retiremement  was exemplary .His dedication to our cause and the interest he used to take on the smooth functioning of our organisation was unparalleled . Though he had withdrawn from  active involvement in our activities during the last few years due to failing health, I had the privelege of visiting him during my trips to Mumbai and I will always cherish memories of the hospitality I used to receive every time. An unassuming person with an uncanny knack of dealing with men and matters he never aspired for any position In our organisation. His demise has indeed caused a vaccum.         May his soul rest in peace.  - G N Sridharan
