During the Union Budget 2017-18, Finance Minister Arun Jaitley had proposed several changes to personal income tax and also introduced some amendments in the Finance Bill. Last Wednesday, the Lok Sabha completed the budgetary exercise for the next financial year, and cleared the Finance Bill. Also, the amendments introduced in the Finance Bill was also passed by the Lok Sabha. Beginning 1 April, 2017, here are the 10 important income-tax changes that tax payers need to take note of: 1) For employees in the yearly income group between Rs 2.5 and Rs 5 lakh, tax rate has been halved to 5 percent from the existing 10 percent, helping them save tax of up to Rs 12,500 a year, according to  The Economic Times . A tax saving of Rs 14,806 a year, including surcharge and cess, will be available for income above Rs 1 crore a year. I have been receiving enquiries on the report of the Court having called for LIC’s rejoinder to a particular written submission. I have responded to them as follows: 1)       The Court, in their last proceedings, had allowed (all) parties to file written submission within 10 days, and LIC also have the right to do so. 2)      Our counsel confirms that our written submission had duly been provided to LIC’s counsel. 3)      To our knowledge as well based on info from our Counsel, there is neither a procedure to file a rejoinder to a written submission, nor there is something unique as reported; our Counsel prefers not to comment on the reported info. 4)      The rest is left to our members to conclude 5)      As for the statement that the 'judge is writing the judgement' we are verifying the matter, and let our members know the progress as soon as we get to know. ...

We had appealed to all pensioners to relax till the much awaited Delhi HC judgement is out. It looks that at least one section of pensioners comprised in the activists of our federation seem to believe that there can be no period of hibernation for us!! I say so because we have received such a lot of very useful suggestions from some of them on what we should be doing now. Based on them we would like to inform all concerned as follows. 1. As any other petitioner(s) we have reasons to anticipate that most of the reliefs we had prayed for will be granted. Our optimism stems from the fact that we were one of the earliest parties to have raised our voice in the judiciary against the discriminatory and draconian rules relied upon by LIC/Govt combine for denying the pensioners of their legitimate dues. The fact that by the historical order dt 31/3/2016 we could get the Interim relief adds strength and logic to our expectations. We, at the same time, realise that at the moment we cannot p...

We  trust that all our affiliated units would have brought to the attention of all their members our written circular dated 1/3/2017wherein the stand taken by LIC in the Delhi HC and how we had countered them had been detailed. We also  We  expressed that the Delhi HC's judgement can be reasonably expected to be delivered only around 20 th of this month.                    We are surprised that the rumour mill has started working to arouse the anxiety of pensioners.I recd.two calls today ,one from the north and another from the south seeking confirmation on the rumour floated by somebody that the judgement was pronounced yesterday. We would therefore like to appeal to  all our members to be patient and await prompt and authentic information from us as soon as the judgement is out.
