THIS IS A CALL OF CONSCIENCE FOR OUR AFFECTED BRETHREN, SAYS D KRISHNAN

Friends, Nature's fury has been unleashed in the state of Kerala, and the human suffering and devastation of an unprecedented magnitude there, call for a huge relief effort. Last year or so it was Assam, and in 2015 it was Tamil Nad, and our Federation has always been sensitive to such needs of the suffering multitude wherever it is. As Retired people, our efforts cannot be a big one in terms of the quantum of money involved in such relief exercises. But this is a call of conscience for our affected brethren, and we shall not be found wanting, in reaching out to them, in whatever small measure we can, as responsible citizens. Time is of the essence here, and we shall not delay matters by giving a general call to all the   Associations for making collections of specified amounts from members, and later co-ordinating at Federation level. We suggest that each Association take its own decision regarding money to be collected and send directly to the Chief Minister's

The Editor had a cell call this evening. Reluctant though to answer the call, owing to a plethora of unexpected happenings in domestic sphere, he said, "hello.." Hello, Sury.  U know who I am . your three decade friend from Audit days.  Ok, I said, what is the matter ? Is it at all wrong  for a leader to say, " Even if there is a small benefit, we should grab it.!" ? I said, I don't understand. Ok. I shall tell you a story from BHAGAVATHAM. That story, you know, is repeated in a few Upanishads also. Before I could say, I AM ALREADY TIRED,/I am in hospital, he started. . you see, there was once a sage, doing Tapasya, having fixed a definite GOAL.  He was so committed to his tapasya, he went on for years to the extent of forgetting  the needs of  his body.  One day, when  suddenly, he  realised what he sought to achieve. So unawares he was then of his own body,  he opened his eyes.   Wisdom dawned, so was his hunger . It sprouted up . Unable

G N S CLARIFIES

I refer to the mail sent to me by shri. Subir Mazumder of Kolkata on the Supreme court order of 30/7 giving us the benefit of Delhi HC judgement which has been posted in your blog also. I am afraid that my friend Subir is among some of the leaders of the organisations of LIC pensioners who firmly believe that judiciary will give EVERYTHING we want in the MANNER we expect. If that is not forthcoming they will blame those steering the court cases for pensioners and/or the counsels engaged. The DR issue is being fought for over a decade and even if there is a small benefit accruing out of the latest INTERIM order we should grab it instead of rejecting it .I certainly do not rejoice over it.             I have sent again a detailed note dated 10/ 8 and I shall be thankful if that is also carried in your blog . -- GN Sridharan &&&&&&&&&&&&&&&&&&&

SUBIR KUMAR MAZUMDER writes: Respected Sri Sridharan, This refers to your supplementary report of 1 st August; 2018 on 30/07 hearing  at Supreme Court where you had the privilege, for your being an Advocate, of sitting on the second row. I would like to draw your kind attention to the following lines of your report stating “The fact however remains that by this interim order we have nearly clinched one major demand”. Have we, at all, clinched anything? Perhaps there is nothing to be happy considering the fact that a sizeable section of the Pre-August’97 pensioners will receive nothing for fault of their basic pension being lower than 2131 ( for retired between 01/01/1986 and 31/03/1993 ) and 3851(for retired between 01/04/1993 and 31/07/1997). Had it been a nearly clinched issue, why then we did not speak out in April’97? Perhaps, now, we have been able to realise that the issue has nearly been clinched. Is this an interim order of the SC Bench?  It can, at best, be te
