A couple of days ago, I read a sonnet on A DUSTBIN.

It is written  in Tamil.  

Had my friend seen it, he would have translated into English. His usual inborn innate poetical skills I see for the last four decades is amazing. 

Back to Dustbin, the sonnet  indeed initiates, enthuses, and encourages one to look at things differently. 

A Whack on your head. And mine too. 

None can be useless.   And that 'none' should be inclusive.  (pensioners !)

(A grandkid once searched for his grandpa when he could not find him anywhere in the house, inside a dustbin !)

Don't dig what is beneath me ! It is all the HRD lessons I learnt from my Guru
 जो ईश्वर और बड़े दयालु भी थे .

At this age, accepting what we can will lead us to peace. Of course,  to move forward and to be a source of help and smile at everyone around us is God's gift.  Possibly, the dustbin promotes that lesson.

My  translation in English (to be the best of my knowledge) is on the left side, while the original is on the right side. As it should be.

If I be perceived as a dustbin, what should I be feeling !!

Dustbin

மிக அவசியமான உலகின் ஒரு பொருள் !

பலரும் இழிவாக மதிப்பிடும் ஒரு பொருள் !

The Most Essential Object in the world

Yet Most despised.

குப்பைத்தொட்டி இல்லையென்றால்

மற்ற இடங்களின் அழகு இல்லாமல் போய்விடும் !

Sans a Dustbin

the rest of our places will be bereft of beauty.

குப்பைத்தொட்டி இல்லாத வீடோ,

அலுவலகமோ இருக்கவே முடியாது !

Never anywhere will you find 

a home or an office without a dustbin.

என்னை பிரமிக்க வைத்த ஒரு பொருள் !

For a dustbin makes us spellbound

வாழ்க்கையின் பல யதார்த்தங்களை

ரகசியமாய் சொல்லிக்கொடுக்கும் ஒரு பொருள் !

In confidence it shares 

a lot of pragmatic, practical things 

குப்பைத்தொட்டியிடமிருந்து நான் கற்றவை பல !

I learnt a lot for dustbin

அதிலிருந்து சிலவற்றை உனக்குச் சொல்கிறேன் !

A few I shall share with you.

என்ன சிரிக்கிறாயா ? ! ?

குப்பைத்தொட்டியில் என்ன பெரியதாக

கற்றுக்கொள்ள இருக்கிறதென்று யோசிக்கிறாயா ?

Do not laugh.

I know you feel 

what is to be learnt from a dustbin !

கற்றுக்கொடுக்காத பொருள்களே

உலகத்தில் இல்லை !

I believe however 

that there is nothing in the world

the dustbin refrains from telling us. 

கற்றுக்கொள்ள உனக்கு

ஆசையிருந்தால் எதிலிருந்தும்,

பலவற்றையும் கற்றுக்கொள்ளலாம் !

If only you had the desire to learn 

you will learn anything 

from anything.

எந்த ஒரு பொருளையும்,

இழிவாக,உபயோகமில்லாததாக ஒரு பொழுதும்

நினைக்கவே நினைக்காதே !

never ever imagine 

less dignified ever  useless

சரி ! இப்போதைக்கு நாம்

குப்பைத்தொட்டியினால்

கிடைத்த பாடங்களை கற்றுக்கொள்ளலாம் !

Let us seek those 

Lessons from dustbin.

தேவையில்லாததை சேகரித்து,

மற்ற இடங்களை சுத்தமாக வைப்பதில்,

குப்பைத்தொட்டிக்கு சமானம் குப்பைத்தொட்டியே !

It accumulates what you feel not necessary

and keep every other place 

neat and hygienic
Anything else equals this ?

வாழ்க்கையில் தேவையில்லாததை

தனியாக எடுத்துப் பிரித்து விட்டாலே

வாழ்க்கை மிகவும் நிம்மதியாக

இருக்கும்!

Segregate 

the Unnecessary 

from the necessary so that 

life will be peaceful.

இது நான் குப்பைத்தொட்டியிடமிருந்து

கற்ற முதல் பாடம் !

Let this be my first lesson.

தான் குப்பையைத்தான்

சேகரிக்கிறோம் என்ற அலட்சியம்

இல்லாத,தாழ்வு மனப்பான்மை

இல்லாத,அசிரத்தையில்லாத ஒன்று

குப்பைத்தொட்டி !

The dustin never sports 

an inferiority complex. 

That it is all serious about 

what it does.

It cares about 
WHAT IT DOES.

நம் கடமை அடுத்தவருக்குக்

                                                                கேவலமாகத் தெரிந்தாலும்,நாம்

அதிலிருந்து நழுவாமல்,முழு மனதோடு,

வெறுப்பில்லாமல் அதில் ஈடுபடவேண்டும் !

May be others feel 

my job is mean 

But to me 

it is supreme.

I shall keep my mind and soul 

on my total performance

No hatred nor disinterest

even on things which are of no interest. 

இது நான் குப்பைத்தொட்டியிடமிருந்து

கற்ற இரண்டாவது பாடம் !

This was my second lesson.

படித்தவன்,படிக்காதவன்,

வயதானவர்,இளையவர்,

ஆண்,பெண்,

பணக்காரன்,ஏழை,

என்ற எந்த பாகுபாடும்

பார்க்காத ஒன்று குப்பைத்தொட்டி !

For the dustbin 

no class war no castewar 

no barriers of any kind.
I BEAR ALL WASTES THROWN BY 
ALL FROM AMIR TO GARIB.

யார் எதுவாக இருந்தாலும்,

எப்படியிருந்தாலும், நீ

என்றும் மாறாதிரு !

Let others change

But you never change

Possibly this was my 

Third Lesson.

AT THE CENTER OF YOUR THOUGHTS HEREAFTER

இது நான் குப்பைத்தொட்டியிடமிருந்து

 கற்ற மூன்றாவது பாடம் !

ஏதோ ஒரு மூலையில்,

யாரும் மதிக்காமல் இழிவாகக்

கிடந்தாலும்,அவரவர்க்கு தேவையான

 சமயத்தில் தன் பக்கம் அவர்களை

 வரவைக்கும்,தன் கடமையைச்

செய்யும் ஒரு கர்மவீரன் குப்பைத்தொட்டி !

Lying in Corner

none feels it importance

EVERYONE SEARCHES FOR IT 

WHEN THEY NEED IT.

நீ உன்னுடைய கடமையை
செய்துகொண்டு ஒதுங்கி இரு!
தானாகவே உன்னைத் தேடி
உலகம் வந்தே தீரும் !

Do your duty and being cornered
Be neutral , and unconcerned 
to whatever happens

around you. You are Just a Witness.

The world may seek you 

at its hour of need.

இது குப்பைத்தொட்டியிடமிருந்து
நான் கற்ற 4வது பாடம் !
This was my fourth lesson.
தனக்கென்று ஒதுக்கப்பட்ட
இடத்தைப் பற்றி கவலைப்படாமல்,
தன்னிடத்தை அவமதிக்காமல்
இருப்பது குப்பைத்தொட்டி !

Never cared the corner  which was allotted to it

never bothered or spoke ill of those who sought refuge in it

Dustbin only does it.

உனக்கென்று பகவான் கொடுத்த
இடத்தை ஒரு நாளும் நீ
கேவலப்படுத்தாமல்,உன் வாழ்க்கையில்
நிம்மதியாய் வாழ்ந்து வா !

So you live in the place 
did that  God give you
never despise your place or position 

and learn to live in peace 

இது குப்பைத்தொட்டியிடமிருந்து
நான் கற்ற 5வது பாடம் !

This was my fifth lesson.

இன்னும் பல பாடங்களை
குப்பைத்தொட்டி
எனக்குச் சொல்லிக்கொடுத்திருக்கிறது !

Dustbin had taught me many things.

Even good people throw by mistake something

 inside. They feel they  may  not need them .

I do not just burn or bury them soon.

I wait for them 

i find  

they repent and come back to trace 

what they feel they have lost.

{hey bhai ! what is it u ask ur pet to search in the dustbin?}
{Don't shout. My boss is asking for past CRs of that Mgr. Possibly got destroyed with old records. Says he wants to promote him this year}

அதை எல்லாம் நான் உனக்கு
சொல்லவேண்டிய அவசியமில்லை !
I do not need to tell them. You know better.

எப்பொழுதும் அடுத்தவர் முதுகில்
பயணம் செய்யாதே !

Let us not ride on others' backs.

அப்படிச் செய்தால் உன்னை
சுலபமாகக் கீழே தள்ளிவிடலாம் !

They may throw you out, when they dislike you.

உன் முயற்சியில் வாழக் கற்றுக்கொள் !
You learn to live on your efforts

.உன் முயற்சியே உனக்கு சந்தோஷம்!

Your efforts afford all your happiness.

நீ சிரத்தையோடு பார்த்தால்

எல்லாவற்றிலும் பாடம் கற்றுக்கொள்ளலாம் !
You ought to learn from everything

when you look at closely.
நீ சிரத்தையோடு பார் !
நீ கற்றுக்கொள் !

உன் மனம் குப்பைத்தொட்டியில்லை !
தேவையில்லாததை வைத்துக்கொள்ளாதே !


Your mind is not however 

a dustbin.

Do not keep anything unnecessary.

உன் வாழ்க்கை குப்பைத்தொட்டியில்லை !
தேவையில்லாதவற்றை சேகரிக்காதே !
Your life is not however

a dustbin

You do not accumulate what is not necessary.

உன் நேரம் குப்பைத்தொட்டியில்லை !
வீணான விஷயங்களை செய்யாதே !
Your time is precious, not a dustbin.

Never do things which are wasteful.

தினமும் இனி நீ செய்யவேண்டியது !
But what to do then?

காலையில் எழுந்தவுடன்
உன் அகம்பாவத்தைக்
குப்பைத்தொட்டியில் வீசி எறி !

As you get up in the morn,

throw all your EGO 

in the dustbin

உன் சுயநலத்தை
குப்பைத்தொட்டியில் வீசி எறி !

Throw your selfishness.

உன் திமிரை
குப்பைத்தொட்டியில் வீசி எறி !
Throw your Vain 

உன் சந்தேகத்தை
குப்பைத்தொட்டியில் வீசி எறி !
Throw your doubts

உன் இயலாமையை
குப்பைத்தொட்டியில் வீசி எறி !
Throw your feelings of helplessness.
உன் துக்கத்தை

குப்பைத்தொட்டியில் வீசி எறி !
Throw your sorrows

.உன் பைத்தியக்காரத்தனத்தை
குப்பைத்தொட்டியில் வீசி எறி !
Throw your madness.

உன் சோம்பேறித்தனத்தை
குப்பைத்தொட்டியில் வீசி எறி !
throw your sluggishness.

உன் முட்டாள்தனத்தை
குப்பைத்தொட்டியில் வீசி எறி !
Throw your foolishness.


உன் பேராசையை
குப்பைத்தொட்டியில் வீசி எறி !
Throw your greed

உன் பொறாமையை
குப்பைத்தொட்டியில் வீசி எறி !
Throw your jealousy

.உன் பயங்களை
குப்பைத்தொட்டியில் வீசி எறி !
Throw your fears

.உன் அழுக்கை
குப்பைத்தொட்டியில் வீசி எறி !
Throw your dirt.

உன் காமத்தை
குப்பைத்தொட்டியில் வீசி எறி !
Throw your lust.

உன் அழுகையை
குப்பைத்தொட்டியில் வீசி எறி !
Throw your cries

உன் பாவங்களை
குப்பைத்தொட்டியில் வீசி எறி !
Throw your sins.

உன் குழப்பங்களை
குப்பைத்தொட்டியில் வீசி எறி !
Throw your dilemmas.

உன்னிடம் தேவையில்லாமலிருக்கும்
அனைத்தவற்றையும்
குப்பைத்தொட்டியில் வீசி எறி !
In fact throw everything

which you possess now

unnecessary

உன் மனதில்
எப்பொழுதெல்லாம்
தேவையில்லாதவைகள்
தோன்றுகின்றதோ,
உடனே அவற்றையெல்லாம்
குப்பைத்தொட்டியில் வீசி எறி !
Whenever you feel 

something is unnessary

throw them away.

Only when you do that

you will reach peace.

வீசிப்பார் ! மனம் சமாதானமடையும் !

இரவும்,படுக்கும் முன்பு,
உன்னுடைய மனதிலிருக்கும்,
அத்தனையையும் குப்பைத்தொட்டியில்
வீசி எறி !
As you go to bed

throw everything in your kind

to the dustbin

க்ருஷ்ணனை மட்டும் உனக்குள்
வைத்துக்கொள் !
நாமஜபத்தை மட்டும் உனக்குள்
வைத்துக்கொள் !
தைரியத்தை மட்டும் உனக்குள்
வைத்துக்கொள் !
Feel Him in your heart.

Feel his namas in your lips.

Have the courage 

that He helps.

Having said that 

Having said that 

Let me realise 

you and I 

can never be
dustbins.

நீ குப்பைத்தொட்டியில்லை !
அதைமட்டும் புரிந்துகொள் !

That you are not

a dustbin

Understand that.
In your heart of hearts 
Krishna resides.
So You Are a
Flower Pot.
நீ க்ருஷ்ணன் என்னும்
பூச்செடியை வைத்துக்கொள்ளும்
அழகான பூந்தொட்டி நீ !

You are a flowerpot 

where your Lord Krishna

smiles.

என் அருமை க்ருஷ்ணனின்
பூந்தொட்டியே !

Oh ! my flowerpot !
